Quick and Easy Hairstyles

Sometimes even us fabulous fashionistas get into a style rut, especially when it comes to our luscious locks. We all have our "to-die-for-do's" that we fall back upon for big events and our "classic me" look that we sport on a daily basis, but don't let that stop you from spicing things up on a regular basis! As working women we often don't have the time to go over kill on the hair, so experiment with these quick and simple styles to get you out of your rut- it will make you feel fun and fresh without really even trying.

Throw your damp hair up in a twisty bun post shower for a wavy, kinky do when its dry.

Braid your hair into 2-8 sections before going to bed for a crimped look in the morning (Tip! Run a straightener over braids before undoing to set the crimps).

Grab a curling iron and wrap up pieces from the top layer of your bed head. Let it cool before shaking it out and running your fingers quickly through it for an "I'm not even trying" sexy style.

Make a whole new look just by changing up your bangs- braid it, twist it, or puff it in a pouf for a quick shake up to your everyday style.

Pull back the front pieces of hair from your face and pin at the back of your crown for a bohemian princess look.

Banana clip your hair half up for a twist on your typical all down style.

Place your normal girl next door pony tail very high up or very low down, and just slightly to the side. This simple twist of a classic look will give you a subtle kick to an everyday favorite.

Part your hair on a different side or in the middle, and even clip back one side if you part it far enough.

Ways to Trim Belly Fat

We have all struggled with it- that stubborn belly fat that just won't seem to go away. Don't stress ladies (no really, it causes fat retention!), because here are different foods that will help you drop that stubborn bulge!

To keep your tummy feeling full and happy longer, try oatmeal, almonds, olive oil, berries, whole grains, or avocados.

To help break down fat, try eating eggs, lean meats, yogurt, and other low fat dairy foods.

Try snacking on peanut butter (but not too much!) to help prevent belly bloating.

Chillies, skim milk, green tea, and coffee can all help speed up your metabolism to burn fats faster.

Snacking on apples can help prevent fat absorption in your system.

Also drinking water can be a big help to drop weight! Your body needs water to function, and drinking more of it will help fuel your body's fat burning processes.

With so many simple and natural ways to trim that tummy, there's no reason not to get started today on shaping that bikini bod!

We all know how important it is to stay fit and healthy, especially in the summer when we need to show off our beautiful beach bodies! There are so many fun and easy ways to work up a sweat that you don't even need to hit the gym hard to get that bikini bod! Try out some of these classes not only because they are fun, but because you'll get that extra motivation working with a group that you just can't get by yourself on the treadmill. With these fun workouts and great classes, you'll have so much fun you'll forget that you're working out.

1. Bar Class- For those of you that haven't heard, bar class is a great way to get a ballerina worthy body! Newly popular, look for them at specialty gyms.

2. Pole Dancing Class- The once scandalous pole dancing is now a trendy way to workout. Don't get the wrong impression! Pole dancing classes don't teach you the trashy moves performed in strip bars, but give you an incredible work out in a way that's tasteful, fun, and flirty.

3. Salsa Class- Everywhere that there is salsa dancing, there is an opportunity to learn! Most night clubs and restaurants start out their salsa nights with a lesson from a professional, so beginners and more experienced dancers can improve their moves. An added bonus is all the cute boys you will meet while rotating partners during the lesson, so you can show off your moves to your pick of the pack!

4. Yoga/Pilates- Find a local studio, head to your gym, or sign up for a very cheap session with your community- these great workout classes can be found all over the place.

5. Zumba- This is a workout you don't want to miss! Zumba will work up a sweat in no time! These great moves combined with your favorite songs will have you coming back week after week!

6. Self-Defense- Not only does self-defense give you a great workout, it's an important skill to have as a woman. It's vital that we know how to protect ourselves ladies, not to mention the empowerment you will feel getting to kick your instructor and work out some extra frustration!

7. Workout Videos- Don't knock it 'till you try it ladies! Rent/Buy a cheesy 80's workout video and invite over your gal pals to wear your leg warmers and leotards together. Don't be embarrassed to laugh at yourselves and you will have a blast while tightening up those buns! Also check out Flirty Girl Fitness for a more modern version of the workout video. These workouts will have you feeling like one of the Pussycat Dolls while you shake your booty and add to your repertoire of sexy moves.

8. Cultural Dance Classes- Check out what your community has to offer. Your city will usually offer unique classes such as Hula or African dancing. Don't be afraid to try something totally new and out there; you never know what you will fall in love with.

Don't be lazy Fashionistas! Load up your iPod with your favorite tunes and remember above all else to just stay active ladies! Whether it's as simple as walking through the park (or the mall!) or as action-packed as a kick boxing class at the gym, get off your butts and out of your routines and you will feel healthier and more energized everyday!

Take notes ladies because class is in session! For those of you that haven't heard, when shopping online you must take advantage of amazing coupon sites to get yourself some fabulous freebies and incredible discounts. My personal favorite site is RetailMeNot.com, which lists pretty much every online shopping site known to woman! All you have to do is type in the website that you are shopping on, and you will be presented with a vast array of sweet coupon codes to enter at your online checkout counter. With everything from free gifts with purchase, to discounts on your merchandise, to free shipping with your orders, there are endless possibilities to the codes you can try. I never shop online without using at least one; when you can get something extra for free, there's no reason not to make the shopping side stop to these sites.

Sophie Kinsella

Fashionistas!

If you were planning on picking up a book this summer (and even if you weren't!), a must read author is Sophie Kinsella, and not just because she writes about shopoholics! Now famous author of the "Confessions of a Shopoholic" series, Kinsella is an absolutely amazing author, who somehow manages to create novels that even the busiest of women can't seem to put down. I just finished reading "Twenties Girl," which revolves around a young woman, Lara, who just can't seem to shake the ghost of her great-aunt Sadie. On a mission to help Sadie, Laura gets sucked into all kinds of hilarious adventures while the two try to work together despite their drastically different personalities.

My personal favorite however, is a book that's over 400 pages long and took me only 2 days to read due to the fact that I was uncontrollably incapable of setting it down! "Remember Me?" focuses on another young woman named Lexi who wakes up in a hospital with absolutely no recollection of the last three years of her life. Unfortunately for Lexi, her life has changed drastically in those three years, and she can't seem to figure out or relate to this new person that she has supposedly become.

Throughout all of her books, Kinsella weaves intricate tales using relatable women that we fall in love with, and will have us twisting our hands in anticipation as we cheer for imaginary characters the whole way through.

First Day of Summer

Today is the official first day of summer, and we couldn't be more excited! It's finally time to trade our uggs for sandals, pull our favorite sundresses from the back of our closet, and don our cutest bikinis by the pool. In order to keep your summer fresh, here are ten activities to kick your summer into gear!

1. Go to a free outdoor concert. Most communities will organize these events during the warm summer months, and you can easily Google your neighborhood to find out when and where to attend.
2. Make a summer scrapbook with all your favorite pictures that you've had lying around the house all year. Go to an arts and crafts store to pick up some cute stickers and pretty paper to spice up the background a bit.
3. Sip a delicious strawberry daiquiri by the pool while reading a steamy romance novel. Some popular authors to try are Carly Phillips, Rachel Gibson, and Nora Roberts.
4. Grab your favorite fashion magazines, pick out the trendiest outfits, and try to recreate them using budget friendly pieces from stores like Forever 21 or items from your own closet.
5. Invent your own smoothies. Throw in a combination of fruit, ice, and yogurt until you have combined the perfect low fat snack.
6. Go to a Sassy City Chicks Event! Take advantage of the summer weather to attend at the Float Rooftop Lounge of the Hardrock Hotel in San Diego on August 19th. The event runs from 5-10 PM, and it's certainly one you don't want to miss!
7. Pack a picnic basket full of fruit and other healthy snacks and head to the beach. Time your arrival so you can sit and watch the sunset, and invite your friends for a s'mores fest after (You can look up online what time the sun will set in your area, as well as which beaches have bonfire pits that you can use).
8. Clean out your closet and refresh your aura. Buying scented candles and a new lamp or painting is an easy way to revamp your whole living space by making only very subtle changes.
9. Find a serene spot in a park or by the beach and hold your own outdoor yoga class with your girlfriends. Bring a portable boom box with calming tracks to help complete the mood.
10. Host your own wine tasting party. Instruct your guests to bring their favorite bottle of white or red, and you will have a vast array of different varieties to sample. All you need to do is put out some bite sized snacks such as grapes and cheeses, and sit back and enjoy!

It's also important to remember to wear sunscreen and reapply often, as the sun's rays are at its strongest in the summer. Wearing sunscreen will block out those harmful rays that can cause skin cancer, as well as keep your skin young and healthy.

Christina vs. Gaga

After watching the MTV Music Awards, it would be easy to say that the widely publicized girl on girl smooch shared between Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson created quite a stir amongst fans- but what I found even more shocking was the display put on by Christina Aguilera. I couldn't help but feel a bit dazed after watching her performance of her new song, "Not Myself Tonight." Right in line with the song's title was an absence of Christina's familiar presence, yet in its place was a striking resemblance of a Lady Gaga performance. From the provocative dance moves down to leather-clad back up dancers, the entire performance emulated Gaga's eccentric style. What stood out the most however, was the leotard Christina chose for her costume. Right off the bat, she steps on Gaga's toes by borrowing her signature outfit, and makes only the slightest change by replacing Gaga's studs for rhinestones. Even the flashing heart on Christina's crotch bears a strong resemblance to the pyrotechnics that were flaring out of Gaga's chest at the Much Music Awards. The only way I could assure myself it was really Ms. Aguilera was by closing my eyes and recognizing her unmistakably stellar vocal chords. As a long time Christina fan, I'm torn between wondering if the pop queen is only keeping up with modern times, or if she is truly "not herself."
